Tax and Customs Specialist Turkey Branch (Istanbul)

Introduction

For this prestigious project we are recruiting for a Tax and Customs Specialist. This position aims to handle tax and customs related matters, including but not limited to tax and customs compliance, audits, rulings, queries and disputes. It relies on the execution of tax and customs reporting and compliance function. In this position, you will be responsible for implementing tax and customs planning opportunities in order to enhance the Branch tax and customs position. You will be also required to provide support and input on various tax and customs related matters arising during the Project as well as tax and customs risk management. 

Organization

As a subsidiary of PAO Gazprom, South Stream Transport B.V. is responsible for the construction of the Turk Stream Offshore Pipeline.

The Turk Stream Offshore Pipeline will start in Anapa, Russia, running over 900 kilometers through the Black Sea to the Turkish coast. The pipeline will help secure energy supplies to Turkey and South-Eastern Europe in a reliable and sustainable way. The Project will use state-of-the-art technology, materials and equipment, to safeguard the pipeline’s safe operation for many decades to come.

Function

  • Review / preparation of tax calculations and declarations/ returns (VAT, income corporate tax, SCT, property tax, stamp tax, etc. except for personal income taxes and social contributions)), review of primary documents (invoices, acts of acceptance, delivery documents) from tax and/ or customs perspective;
  • Development of methodology of tax accounting, tax accounting policy and maintenance of tax accounting records on income corporate tax, VAT and other taxes, if required;
  • Support of desk and field tax audits and customs checks: preparation of replies on requests of documents (information) from the Turkish tax and/or customs authorities, participation at meetings with the tax and/or customs authorities, preparation of objections to acts, complaints related to resolutions based on results of tax and/or customs audits, participation in review of tax and/or customs audit findings, preparation of appeals to the superior tax and/or customs authority, all other activities related to pre-court trials and court trials (if required) support during disputes with tax and customs authorities;
  • Assistance with various tax and/or customs matters including review of contracts from tax and/or customs perspective, ongoing discussions/communication with the specialists and management of the Head Office of the Company and the Branch’s, Company’s contractors with respect to any Turkish tax and/or customs issues arisen in the course of the execution of the contracts; required communication with local tax and customs authorities and customs brokers, Sworn Financial Advisor (SFA), etc.;
  • Supporting the Branch in all judicial instances with relation to tax and/or customs disputes;
  • Performance and completion of other tasks upon requests of the management.


Requirements

  • University degree in (Fiscal) Law, (Fiscal) Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics; 
  • Additional professional qualification (certified public accountant) is an advantage;
  • More than 7 years of related professional experience (Big 4/professional law firms with specialization in taxes + in-house tax departments/legal practices with focus on tax and customs disputes and oil and gas industry);
  • Excellent technical knowledge: experience in Turkish and international taxation and customs, tax dispute resolution experience; 
  • Experience in the Tax Exemption process/investment incentives and VAT refund, Special Consumption Tax issues in Oil and Gas industry;
  • Technically strong and has the robust skill set needed to work autonomously and to build effective relationships within the company;
  • Committed to the work, result driven, but eager to execute with precision;
  • Strong communication skills: consensus oriented but with skills to be determined if the content requires so;
  • Able to work under pressure and  highly flexible adjusting to current workload;
  • Ability to operate in multitasking environment and under time pressure; 
  • Strong presentation, influencing and interpersonal skills;
  • Available to travel in various location in and outside Turkey; 
  • Professional knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access;
  • Fluent in Turkish and English both spoken and written;
  • Any other project languages both written and spoken will be an asset (Dutch and/ or Russian).
