External Relations Expert (Ankara/Istanbul)


For this prestigious project we are recruiting for a External Relations Expert. You will be responsible for boosting and maintaining the profile of the TurkStream project among external stakeholders, including the government, media, general public and the local stakeholders, within the framework of the communication activities of South Stream Transport B.V., the Company responsible for the construction of the TurkStream Offshore Pipeline. Working together with the Communications Team, the Permitting Team and the Legal & Regulatory Affairs Team, you will help shape the approach of the Company towards the Turkish government. You will be based in Turkey (Istanbul or Ankara) with frequent travel to Kiyikoy (Turkey), as well as occasional visits to the Company Headquarters in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and the Russian landfall (Anapa).


As a subsidiary of PAO Gazprom, South Stream Transport B.V. is responsible for the construction of the TurkStream Offshore Pipeline.

The TurkStream Offshore Pipeline will start in Anapa, Russia, running over 900 kilometres through the Black Sea to the Turkish coast. The pipeline will help secure energy supplies to Turkey and South-Eastern Europe in a reliable and sustainable way. The Project will use state-of-the-art technology, materials and equipment, to safeguard the pipeline’s safe operation for many decades to come.


Media Relations and Communications

  • Support Project Spokespeople of the project in their interaction with the media;
  • Support the development and production of information materials, factsheets, brochures, leaflets, Q&As etc;
  • Support the development, update and revision of press releases and the project website;
  • Support the organization of local, national and international media and public events;
  • Support the management of the communication and event organization agencies;

Local and Regional Communications

  • Support the ongoing communication activities in and around Kiyikoy with the local residents, the regional media as well as local and regional governance bodies;
  • Facilitate coordination and information flow between local employees/contractors and Amsterdam headquarters.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Keep track of main political and legislative developments in Turkey and write brief analytical notes on key developments;
  • Maintain an overview of key stakeholders and their position on the TurkStream Project (‘stakeholder mapping’)

Public Affairs

  • Keep in touch with key mid- and high-level governmental stakeholders on a regular basis to maintain good working relations and ongoing collaboration;
  • Help position the TurkStream project in a positive way with governmental stakeholders, both regionally and nationally;
  • Work with the Communications Team, the Legal Regulatory Affairs Department and the Permitting Team to ensure an aligned and consistent approach towards political stakeholders;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, Economic/Social/Political Sciences or other relevant field, graduate degree will be an asset;
  • >5 years’ work experience in journalism, communications, public and/or government relations;
  • Good network within relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and BOTAS, and/or the Turkish media is considered an asset;
  • Ideally, experience with large infrastructure or energy projects is considered an asset;
  • Native Turkish speaker, fluent in English;
  • Ability to work independently and proactively but in collaboration and coordination with other team members in other locations;
  • Good multitasking and organization skills; attention to quality and detail;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Stress-resistance and ability to deliver under great time pressure;
  • Willingness to travel frequently;
  • Experience in event management will be an asset;
  • Sound judgment in handling sensitive information and facing challenging circumstances is key.
