Legal Counsel Turkey (Istanbul)

Introduction

For this prestigious project we are recruiting for Legal Counsel Turkey you will have a broad-based scope encompassing a variety of legal works mainly with Turkish but also with international components. You will work in an international/multicultural environment with a deal of autonomy and a high degree of responsibility. You will report to the Head of Legal Department based in Amsterdam. You will be based in Istanbul, occasionally business travelling to project locations. 

Organization

As a subsidiary of PAO Gazprom, South Stream Transport B.V. is responsible for the construction of the TurkStream Offshore Pipeline.

The TurkStream Offshore Pipeline will start in Anapa, Russia, running over 900 kilometres through the Black Sea to the Turkish coast. The pipeline will help secure energy supplies to Turkey and South-Eastern Europe in a reliable and sustainable way. The Project will use state-of-the-art technology, materials and equipment, to safeguard the pipeline’s safe operation for many decades to come.

Function

  • Provide legal advice covering diverse areas of the business under Turkish law (in particular Commercial Law and Labor Law). To that effect, draft and review contracts, agreements or document for relevant departments. Follow up the new developments of Turkish law and regulations applicable to the Company and suggest improvements when necessary;
  • Draft and review of contracts (services agreements, lease agreements, donation and/or compensation agreement, etc.). Participation to the negotiation rounds if required;
  • Corporate housekeeping for the Company branch in Turkey, taking care of required registrations to relevant chamber of commerce, issuance of power of attorneys and other transactions to be performed in front of the notaries, drafting, reviewing and submitting relevant documents or letters to authorities;
  • Attending meetings with authorities, stakeholders, business partners, as and when required;
  • Collaborate with Branch members in Turkey, Legal team members and with other departments of the company (Commercial, HR, Technical, CEO Office);
  • Liaise with and manage external lawyers as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Turkish Law degree from a reputable university, master degree would be an asset;  
  • Admitted to bar in Turkey;
  • 3-5 years’ experience in quality private practice and/or in-house setting;
  • Knowledge and experience in the energy and/or construction industry sector;
  • Solid client relationship experience and communications skills and ability to work with a wide range of people with varying degree of legal exposure;
  • Result driven, but eager to execute with precision;
  • Demonstrated to work in an international, fast paced, multicultural environment;
  • Fluent in Turkish and English, both verbal and written;
  • Ms Office;
  • Military service completed (for male candidates);
  • Holding a valid driving license.
