Legal Counsel (Commercial) (Amsterdam)

Introduction

For this prestigious and ambitious project we are recruiting for a Legal Counsel. The role of Legal Counsel is highly commercial with a broad-based workload encompassing a wide variety of contracts with an international component. This opportunity will appeal to commercial lawyers with experience in the energy and/or construction and/or industry sector and who are looking for a dynamic and challenging position in an international/multicultural environment with a great deal of autonomy and a high degree of responsibility. You will report to the Head of Legal.

Organization

As a subsidiary of PAO Gazprom, South Stream Transport B.V. is responsible for the construction of the TurkStream Offshore Pipeline.

The TurkStream Offshore Pipeline will start in Anapa, Russia, running over 900 kilometres through the Black Sea to the Turkish coast. The pipeline will help secure energy supplies to Turkey and South-Eastern Europe in a reliable and sustainable way. The Project will use state-of-the-art technology, materials and equipment, to safeguard the pipeline’s safe operation for many decades to come.

Function

  • Collaborate with legal team members (Legal Team consists of 7 lawyers, 1 assistant and one legal translator), other departments of the company (Commercial, Finance, Technical/Construction) and report to the shareholder;
  • Draft, review and negotiate procurement and tendering documents and a wide range of commercial contracts;
  • Draft and review lease agreements;
  • Procurement of materials (drafting/reviewing supply contracts, variation orders);
  • Services contracts (surveys, certification of material, consultancy contracts, secondment of personnel);
  • NDA’s, Letter of Intent;
  • Provide legal advice covering diverse areas of the business and a wide range of legal matters, often on tight timescales;
  • Liaise with and manage external lawyers as appropriate;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master Law degree (Dutch law), experience with UK law is a plus;
  • 5-7 years’ experience in quality private practice and/or in-house setting;
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the energy and/or construction and/or industry is important;
  • Solid client relationship experience and communications skills and ability to work with a wide range of people with varying degree of legal exposure;
  • Demonstrated to work in an international, fast paced, multicultural environment;
  • Fluent in English and Dutch, both verbal and written. Russian and Turkish language are an asset (not a must);
  • Able to travel occasionally.
